What is Rakeback?

Online poker rooms earn their money by “taxing” the players. They tax players by taking a commission out of every pot or through tournaments fees. This commission from the poker room is called rake.

In cash games, poker rooms collect 5% out of every pot up to a maximum of 3$/pot.  For example, let’s say the pot is 50$, the poker room will collect 5% x 50$ = 2.5$ and the winner of the pot will receive 47.5$.

Rakeback is a portion of the rake paid by a player that is redistributed to that same player. For example, if a player rakes 500$ in a month and has a 33% rakeback deal, he will get 33% x 500$ = 165$. Rakeback is a partial refund of the rake an online poker player pays to their poker room. Rakeback is only offered through affiliates such as Rakeback Quebec and cannot be obtained directly through the poker rooms.
